This two-hour workshop will include case studies, discussion on family history research challenges, and an explanation of digital tools to help with the genealogy research process. Participants will receive expert tips to kick-start their Puerto Rican family history research. Bring your questions, family photos, heirlooms, and oral stories. Presenter Melanie Maldonado Diaz is a genealogist, artivist and independent scholar with doctoral training in performance studies. Melanie has conducted genealogy research for more than 20 years and has researched hundreds of Puerto Ricans and their families both in Puerto Rico and in the diaspora.

Preparing for the Workshop: Have a burning question or an old document you’d like deciphered? Participants will have the opportunity to submit questions and family history documents in advance for our presenter, Melanie Maldonado.
